Angel Reese and Magic Johnson Launch ‘Wealth Playbook’ to Empower High Schoolers with Financial Literacy

In a groundbreaking initiative, WNBA star Angel Reese and NBA legend Magic Johnson have joined forces to launch the “Wealth Playbook,” a financial literacy program aimed at educating high school seniors in Baltimore, Maryland. This collaboration seeks to equip students with essential money management skills, fostering long-term financial stability and empowerment.

A Strategic Alliance for Financial Education

The “Wealth Playbook” is a four-session program that commenced at St. Frances Academy, Reese’s alma mater. Developed in partnership with the Angel Reese Foundation, the Magic Johnson Foundation, and community outreach firm Pull Up Neighbor, the curriculum covers critical topics such as budgeting, understanding credit, and personal money management. The inaugural session, conducted in collaboration with Merrill Lynch, was met with enthusiasm and engagement from students, highlighting the program’s immediate impact.

Personal Commitment to Community Upliftment

Angel Reese’s dedication to her community is evident through her philanthropic efforts. In 2023, she donated $12,000 to support tuition for a student at St. Frances Academy, reflecting her commitment to providing opportunities for underrepresented groups. Her foundation focuses on creating pathways for girls and underserved communities through education, mentorship, and sports.

Magic Johnson brings decades of experience in business and community development to the initiative. With a net worth of $1.5 billion, largely attributed to strategic investments and ownership stakes in various enterprises, Johnson’s expertise is invaluable in guiding students toward financial literacy and success.

Addressing the Racial Wealth Gap

The “Wealth Playbook” is more than an educational program; it’s a strategic effort to address the persistent racial wealth gap in the United States. By providing students with the tools and knowledge to manage their finances effectively, Reese and Johnson aim to empower the next generation to build and sustain wealth, thereby contributing to the reduction of economic disparities in underserved communities.

Looking Ahead

This initiative represents a significant step toward financial empowerment for youth in Baltimore. As Reese prepares for the upcoming WNBA season with the Chicago Sky, her off-court endeavors continue to make a profound impact. The “Wealth Playbook” stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between sports figures and community organizations in driving meaningful change.
