Detroit Lions defensive lineman John Cominsky has decided to call it a career before his 30th birthday.

2024-2025 NFL – PASSING TOUCHDOWNS Leaderboards

On his Instagram account, the 29-year-old John Cominsky announced that he’s retiring from football. Cominsky decided his string of injuries that took over his “desire to continue playing” and wish to spend more time with his wife and two children.

Cominsky thanked the Lions and Atlanta Falcons (the team that drafted him in 2019) in the heartwarming message:

Multiple Lions players commented on Cominsky’s post, including star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson writing, “Gonna miss ya dude🥲.” Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown commented with a “🥂” emoji, with defensive end Josh Paschal writing, “Love bro! Congratulations and enjoy retirement!!”

Cominsky spent five seasons on the Charleston Golden Eagles football team before the Falcons selected him in the fourth round (135h overall) in 2019. He saw limited time as a rookie, recording 0.5 sacks and two pass breakups in 10 game appearances.

After three seasons in Atlanta, the Lions picked up John Cominsky off waivers in the 2022 offseason. Cominsky became a starter on Dan Campbell’s defense, tallying four sacks and three pass defenses (both career bests) in 14 games.

CL Pod 91: Post-Deadline team assessment: taking stock of the rest of the season
The dust has settled on the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline, and Anthony Davis is NOT a Los Angeles Laker. That’s far from the only thing that (didn’t) happen, however, as multiple East teams improved their rosters for the playoffs, and teams in the Western Conference made moves that may impact the Boston Celtics incoming draft picks this summer. The Cs even made a minor but potentially impactful move by opening up a roster slot able to be filled with any of several interesting options on the buyout market. Join Mark Allison and Justin Quinn as they sort through all the week’s past action, and try to divine the team’s short and longer-term plans as well.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/celtics-lab-nba-basketball-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Historic blowouts, exorcising demons, and projecting All-NBA
The Boston Celtics have been playing like a ball club full of All-NBA players, even if they will likely only have two — and it has not shown more this season than in their 140-88 demolition of the Golden State Warriors at TD Garden on Sunday afternoon. Exorcising the demons lingering from their 2022 NBA Finals loss to the Warriors in a big way, now the question in front of Boston as they dive into the stretch run is how long their league-leading win streak will end with the easiest remaining schedule in the NBA.  And while we’re talking about All-NBA, where are those presumed Celtics All-NBA players likely to fall among their elite peers in the league, and who else might join Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on which All-NBA teams? The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast sat down to tease out who they think will make which teams, and where Boston’s players stand among them on their most recent episode. We also get caught up on the news and look back and the Celtics’ week of excellent play. The Celtics Lab podcast is brought to you by Prize Picks. Cominsky made a career-high 11 starts in the 2023 season, recording two sacks in 16 games. The Lions won their first division title in 30 years and reached the NFC Championship Game, narrowly losing to the San Francisco 49ers.

Unfortunately, Cominsky missed the entire 2024 season after suffering a torn MCL in a July practice session. He was initially ruled out “indefinitely,” but Cominsky’s recovery took longer than expected as he missed all of 2024.

Nonetheless, it was still a solid five-year career for a little-known fourth-round pick out of a smaller football school. All the best to Cominsky in his retirement.
